It was interesting doing this. I think it's finished...anyway it was just an experiment. Lessons learnt?...possibly not to do everything with directional strokes, some of the fine detail was hard to achieve, particularly with the hair...maybe I should shave my head...
Definitely going to explore this idea further, possibly using more complex shapes that compliment the primary image more...or contrast it more, could be very interesting.
amazing work!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's almost got a hypnotic quality to it, 'look in to my eyes...' I like it!
ReplyDeleteOooh I like the halo of blues in the background. It really makes the portrait pop. The added darker values. It is much more dramatic. Great work Ben! I'm still struggling to just get the proportions right when drawing a portrait. I keep telling myself practice, practice, practice. You inspire me to do just that.
ReplyDeleteThere's a really strong sense of motion here! It's like a thousand wriggling snakes in a whirlpool!
ReplyDeleteHey Ben,
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading the last few posts and loved every minute of them. I think your self-portrait is exceptional. And no, I don't think it looks like Vincent did it. Having followed your blog for some time, the painting comfortably fits alongside your previous work.
It was great seeing your studio set-up. I don't think I'm alone in thoroughly enjoying seeing other painter's work spaces. I always learn something from the experience. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Gary.
